# How do I get the built-in AI model?

Open the panel's Settings and press the download button beside the model that suits your computer. It is downloaded once and then works offline.

Updated 28 October 2026

The built-in model runs on your computer: free, private, and it works offline. It is downloaded once, after the install rather than during it.

## Downloading it

Choosing the built-in model during install records the choice; the model itself arrives afterwards, with a progress bar. If you put the choice off, open the panel’s **Settings**: it offers the model that suits your computer, with a download button.

The model list in Settings also offers every other built-in model. The best fit for your computer is marked “recommended”. Models too big for your computer’s memory or free disk are greyed out, with the reason shown when you pick one.

## What it needs

- A Mac with Apple Silicon, or a 64-bit Windows PC. On Windows it uses your graphics card where it can, and runs faster with one.
- Free disk space for the model, on top of the about 2 GB Mixroadie needs.

On an Intel Mac the built-in model can’t run. Use [LM Studio](https://lmstudio.ai/), [Ollama](https://ollama.com/) or a [cloud AI](https://mixroadie.com/help/api-key/) instead. See [Which AI model should I choose?](https://mixroadie.com/help/which-ai-model/)

Still stuck?

Write to us with your computer (Mac or Windows and its version), your REAPER version and what you see. A screenshot helps.
