Mixroadie vs. iZotope Ozone and Neutron

Plugin assistants against a session-wide plan. Where each one is the better choice.

COMPARISON 2 min read

Ozone is a mastering plugin, and its Master Assistant builds a mastering chain from your mix. Neutron is a mixing channel strip, and its Mix Assistant suggests settings for the tracks it sits on. Both run locally, as VST3, AU or AAX, in nearly every DAW. iZotope describes the assistants as a starting point, not a finished mix.

Where iZotope is ahead

  • DAW support. Ozone and Neutron load in Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase and everything else that hosts plugins. Mixroadie supports REAPER. Logic Pro, Cubase and Pro Tools are next on our list, without a date.
  • Mastering depth. Ozone has far more processing and far more control than Mixroadie’s mastering.
  • Hands-on tweaking. You get a full plugin interface with meters and every parameter on screen.

Where Mixroadie is different

  • It plans the whole session. One pass covers every track: levels, panning, EQ and compression, including how tracks sit against each other. Plugin assistants work on the instance you open.
  • Every move comes with a reason. You see each change with before and after numbers, tick the ones you want, and the project is backed up before anything is written.
  • Plain language. “The bass is too boomy” or “make it sound like tape” turns into moves on the right tracks.
  • Fixes to the recording. Drum timing, note-by-note vocal tuning, click repair, and phase checks that tell you where in the frequency range two tracks cancel.
  • No plugins to buy. It uses your DAW’s own EQ, compressor and limiter.
  • Delivery. One mix goes to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon, club, CD and vinyl in one pass.

Which one to pick

If you’re on Logic, Pro Tools or Cubase, or you want a deep mastering chain to adjust by hand, pick iZotope. If you work in REAPER and want someone to work through the whole mix with you and explain each step, pick Mixroadie. The two also work together: Mixroadie’s changes are ordinary plugins in your session, so you can still put Ozone on the master afterwards.
