Will Mixroadie work on your setup?

Find your DAW, then your computer. About 2 GB of disk space, no paid plugins, no account.

  1. 1 Intel Mac: everything works except the built-in AI model. Use a free local AI app such as LM Studio or Ollama, or a cloud AI, instead.
  2. 2 Windows: everything works except splitting a reference track into stems. The REAPER panel opens with Ctrl+Shift+R. Windows on ARM needs Windows 11.
  3. 3 Other DAWs: Logic Pro, Cubase and Pro Tools are next on our list, without a date. Nothing is built for them yet, and other DAWs are not supported. A Linux build is being worked on, also without a date.

Where the AI runs.

Mixroadie uses an AI to turn its measurements into a plan. You choose where it runs, in Settings, and can change it any time. Whichever you pick, your audio is analysed on your computer and never sent anywhere.

Not sure which to pick? We tested 25 models on real mixing decisions for speed, cost and consistency.

  • Built-in model

Mac with Apple Silicon, or Windows

Downloaded once and sized to your computer’s memory. No account, no API key, works offline. On Windows it uses your graphics card when it can.

  • Your own local model

    Mac or Windows

LM Studio, Ollama or any compatible local server. Needs depend on the model you pick.

  • Cloud AI

    Any computer

Your own API key with a provider such as Claude or ChatGPT, around 1 to 2 cents per full song mix, billed by the provider. Only measurements, track names and your request are sent — never audio.

  • Your Claude, ChatGPT or other AI plan

Through Claude, Codex or another AI app

Use Mixroadie from Claude Desktop, Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex or another app that runs local MCP servers (Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) instead of the panel. Your AI app makes the decisions on your plan, so you need no AI model in Mixroadie and no API key. How it works

Which local AI your computer runs.

The built-in model is picked from your computer’s memory: the same models on Mac and Windows, at the same memory sizes. On a PC that is system RAM; a graphics card makes it faster but is not required. Intel Macs can’t run the built-in model — use LM Studio, Ollama or a cloud key there.

Memory Mac Apple Silicon, e.g. Windows 10 or 11, e.g. Built-in model Score
Under 14 GB MacBook Air M1–M3 with 8 GB Laptop or PC with 8 GB Qwen3 4B 7/10
16–24 GB MacBook Air or Mac mini with 16 or 24 GB PC with 16 GB Qwen3 8B 8/10
32–48 GB MacBook Pro or Mac mini, M4 Pro / M5 Pro with 32–48 GB PC with 32 GB Qwen3 30B, 4-bit 9/10
64 GB or more MacBook Pro M5 Max with 64 GB, Mac Studio PC with 64 GB, faster with a graphics card Qwen3 30B, 8-bit 9/10

How the models score.

Our score out of 10 for Mixroadie’s job, not for AI in general: short, numeric mixing decisions. Where we measured a model, the score weighs giving the same answer twice most, then honest reasons, then speed. Models we haven’t measured yet are scored from their size, and marked as estimates. Claude Haiku 5.5, the most consistent cloud model we tested, is in the last row for comparison.
