What should I do first?

Start with Diagnose this mix to check the recording, then press Mix my track for me, untick anything you disagree with and press Apply.

Updated

With your song open and saved in REAPER and the Mixroadie panel open:

  1. Press Diagnose this mix. It checks the recording for clipping, noise, tracks that were once MP3s, mismatched sample rates and stereo tracks that cancel. This check is free, with or without a licence.
  2. Press Mix my track for me. Mixroadie measures every track and comes back with one list of moves (EQ cuts, compression, levels, panning and so on), each with its reason and its own checkbox.
  3. Untick anything you disagree with, then press Apply.

Moves that are a matter of taste, such as saturation or parallel drum compression, are marked (optional) and start unticked. The reverb bus starts ticked unless your session already has a reverb, so untick it if you don’t want it.

Nothing changes without you

Mixroadie never changes your project until you press Apply, and it backs the project up before every apply. To go back, point at one of your messages in the panel and press the undo button beside it: the project goes back to how it was right before that message.

Asking in your own words

You can also type what you hear, such as “the bass is too boomy” or “get the vocal in front of the guitars”. Mixroadie answers with a plan you can tick and apply the same way.

Before you start the trial

The free trial covers three songs. Each one counts the first time you ask Mixroadie for something on it, so you can test it on a rough project first and still have room for the songs you care about.

Still stuck?
